AI & Data - Power BI Desktop Basics: Create dynamic and interactive dashboards, ENI certification
A practical course focused on Power BI Desktop Basics: Create dynamic and interactive dashboards, ENI certification. Participants build skills across three priorities: Introduction, Import data by connecting to different sources, Transform the data in Power Query.
Detailed programme
Introduction
- Panorama of Business Intelligence in 2024.
- Presentation of the Microsoft ecosystem.
- The design cycle of a Power BI application.
Hands-on work
- Opening of Power BI Desktop interface presentation.
Import data by connecting to different sources
- The different modes of connection: Import, Direct Query.
- Connection to structured data (xlsx, csc, SGBDR).
- Connection to Unstructured Data (Web Page).
- Change in source.
- Update of data.
Hands-on work
- Connecting to a xlsx file, connecting to a csv file connecting to a Windows folder.
Transform the data in Power Query
- Presentation of the Power Query tool.
- Presentation of regular formatting features (Transpose, Unpivot, Fill...).
- Diagnostic data quality.
- Data profiling (counting, double detection, etc.).
- Fixed data following import (type incompatibility).
- Fusion/Add requests, File combination in a folder.
- Creation of new columns (personalized, conditional, from examples...).
- Data filtering.
- Good practices.
Hands-on work
- Import new files, combination, Add, merge, Create new columns, Calculating date differences, Format application, data correction, data transformation, type conversion.
Modeling
- Establish relationships (joints) between tables.
- Ownership of relations (sense, cardinalities).
- Atypical relationships (several to several, Circular references).
- Good practices to achieve an effective model.
- Object naming convention (Tables, columns, Measurements, Parameters).
- Creating and integrating a calendar into a Power BI model.
- Creation of the semantic layer (documentary properties, creation of thematic folders, Hide objects).
- Good modelling practices.
Hands-on work
- Creation of a "sales analysis" model from the import of several files (orders, invoices, returns, products, etc.).
Data Analysis
- Definition of a measure.
- Analytical uses.
- Good practices for effective analysis.
- Group its measurements into one table.
- Quick measurements.
- Use case.
- DAX language: presentation, syntax.
- The "calculate" function and the concept of computational context.
- Time Intelligence calculations (Annual cumuls, Time Variations, ...).
- Contextualized calculations.
Hands-on work
- Creation of new measurements, use of rapid measurements to make cumulations and variations, creation of KPI on the model sales analysis.
Data Visualization
- Presentation of the visuals palette and Microsoft Market Place.
- Presentation of the various components (Structure/Form/Analytic).
- Creating a report page.
- Discovery of basic visuals.
- Changes in the interactions between the elements.
- The segments and their properties.
- Discovery of the filter shutter.
- Extract filter for detailed analysis.
- Report page in tooltips.
- Hierarchies to perform data explorations (Drill dow).
- Insertion of images, background, application of themes, graphic chart.
- Use of bookmarks for dynamic display.
- Setting up a navigation between pages.
- Good practices.
Hands-on work
- Realize 3 pages of relationships with different types of visuals (Matrix, Curve, histogram, Cascade Chart, Bubble Card...).
Publication
- Publish a report in Power BI service.
- Presentation of the PowerBI.com Portal.
- Workspaces.
- Create a report on a published dataset.
- Integrate collaborative comments.
- Creating dashboards.
- Applications.
- Automatic refresh of data sets.
- "Row Level Security" to automatically filter lines according to users.
Hands-on work
- Creation of a complete perimeter report analysis of sales with Graphs with implementation of a typical home page "Dashboard" and analytical pages accessible via a summary.
